I was so excited about photographing the Johnsons again! Andrew and I used to work together at SECU, so it’s always fun to see him.His gorgeous wife Leslie and their adorable son Tyler (and there’s one more on the way…yay!) were so much fun…like they always are! They came prepared with books, snacks, golf clubs…lots of things to keep little man happy! (2 can be such a hard age for pictures) One of my favorite moments came when Tyler was hitting his golf balls, and I told him to hit the balls toward my camera. He misunderstood and came up swinging THE CLUB at my camera…luckily, no one (and no camera) was injured, but it sure was funny. I should re-think directions I give to two year olds in the future : )

Tucker Family Preview {Durham Family Photographer}

I have felt like Eeyore recently, with a little black rain cloud following me all over the place! Oh, how I wish it would stop raining on Wednesdays and Saturdays! I have done 2 sessions in the rain, and the one session that was cancelled due to rain we could have done because it never did rain! Oh well. I’m just so lucky to photograph amazing families that—rain or shine—are always positive and excited about getting their pictures taken!

Enough about the rain though. I LOVE this family! And I look forward to photographing them each fall. They are beautiful inside and out, and recently completed their family with the addition of sweet baby Linlee. (Well, she is 9 months old now, but the last time I saw them Gina was pregnant with her, so it feels recent to me.) These guys were so great and easy-going despite the weather. Some things I love about these images: 1. The first one I posted of the whole family looks like it was taken in the mountains or something, with the fog so low. I love that! 2. I love Corbin’s gesture in the last photo as he felt a raindrop…so cute!

Smilin’ In the Rain {Raleigh Durham Maternity & Family Photographer}

When I met up with the Fok family over the weekend, I wanted to jump up and down with joy-- They were positively adorable, inside and out! Let me say now that it rained during this entire.session, despite the weather radars showing nothing. We would shoot for a minute or two under some trees, and then sit and chat under a roof waiting for it to let up, but it never did. Luckily, for a while it just sprinkled, so we were still able to take some amazing photos. I LOVE maternity-family sessions like this…what an exciting, joyful time to capture in photographs. (And how gorgeous is Anthea?!? Seriously GLOWING!) Miss Emma (big sister) was incredibly well-behaved and fun the entire time…despite the rain and all the waiting! I know she is going to be a fabulous big sister when her little sister comes along.

Fok family, it was SO nice meeting you and chatting with you while we wished the rain away. Thank you so much for a wonderful session! Can’t wait to meet little girl #2 soon!

Miss Ellie, who I am convinced is THE cutest baby alive, just turned one! Hooray! I was honored that her parents would ask me to photograph her for her first birthday…and on her birthday-day, no less! She did not think I was particularly funny, but luckily she has funny parents who were able to get some adorable smiles out of her. She also impressed me with her myriad of tricks…where’s your tongue, what does a dog say, etc. Watch out Bearrows, you may just have a baby genius on your hands : )

Anyway, I had a wonderful evening photographing Miss Ellie…thanks so much you guys! She is a doll!

Karen & Peter! {Raleigh Durham Wedding Photographer}

I have been so excited to share this wedding preview on my blog! Karen and Peter were married in Durham last weekend on a gorgeous, sunny afternoon. When I first met them many months ago, I walked away with two things in mind—one, they seemed like an amazing couple, and two- I thought their wedding day would be so much fun. (I was right on both accounts.) Their wedding was beautiful, simple and sweet—and as they exchanged their vows in the company of their incredibly loving families and friends--I felt so honored to be a part of their special day. Moreover, this wedding was extra special for me because I got to shoot alongside my brother-in-law and photography extraordinaire, Graham. I don’t shoot many weddings, but when I do, he is the person I want shooting with me…calm, creative and confident. Many thanks to Graham for accompanying me this day, and a huge thanks to Karen and Peter for allowing me to document your lovely wedding. So without further ado…a little preview:

They were married at Hope Valley Baptist Church in Durham.

I was thrilled that Karen and Peter wanted to do a “first look”, allowing them some time just to themselves before the ceremony, and allowing me to take lots of pictures of them together : ) I loved their faces when they saw each other for the first time.

After the lovely ceremony, everyone headed over to the Durham Arts Council downtown for cocktails, dinner and dancing!

Party with the Pratts! {Durham Family Photographer}

I had so much fun spending the morning with the Pratt family this weekend. We met up bright and early at a park that they frequent often, and I couldn’t have picked a better spot. Lots of green grass, tall trees and plenty of room to run! And I have to say, I was loving the outfit combinations that Jessica chose. It’s okay not to match…I thought the stripes, together with the boys’ outfits looked fabulous together!

Anyways, big brother Payton(2 yrs.) was adorable and energetic…not particularly interested in being photographed haha, but you’d never know it…we still managed to capture some great moments with him. We wore little Luke (3 months) out…by the end he had fallen asleep in Daddy’s arms…adorable!

Pratts, it was so fun to see you guys again and photograph your cute family. I can’t wait to send you your disc…there are so many cute images! : )

My Lovely Evening with the Karras Family! {Cary Family Photographer}

I had a fabulous time photographing the adorable Karras family this week. These two little boys were absolutely adorable, and although we didn’t shoot for very long, we still got some great shots! It’s hard to want to take pictures when you’ve just turned one…I have a one year old—I know : ) Still, I couldn’t have asked for better weather, better location (their gorgeous family farm in Cary) or a more darling family. And afterwards the boys got to see/help feed the cows…hooray!

Sweet Sarabeth is Here! {Raleigh Newborn & Family Photographer}

I was so excited to be able to photograph perfect little Sarabeth at just nine days old. She was an absolute angel and slept through it all. She even slept through big brother Palmer crawling all around her : ) Sarabeth and Palmer (16 months) are so lucky to have each other and be so close in age…I know they will be the best of friends! We had a little trouble getting a shot with Palmer holding her, but I actually loved this last image of him crawling beside her, because it’s so…real. Palmer, the busy toddler, and Sarabeth, the sleeping newborn. That is what' it’s really like now…and I love it when photographs remind us of what is real.

McWilliams family, thank you for having me over to photograph your perfect baby girl. I can’t wait to look through the rest of the images! : )

For Time and Eternity…Julie & Morgan’s Preview! {Raleigh LDS Temple Wedding Photographer}

One of the most beautiful doctrines of my faith is that we believe that marriage does not have to end at death. When preformed under proper authority in the Temple, families can be united throughout eternity! I am always excited when people choose to be sealed in the Temple, and so when I first received an email from Julie about photographing her and Morgan after their Sealing, I was thrilled! I usually photograph families with little kids (which I love, obviously) but it was fun to photograph people my own age today…and in this heat, it was nice not to have to chase anyone around! : )

Julie and Morgan are so in love and were so much fun to photograph! Collectively they have a pretty large family, so I was happy that my sister-in-law Jenna was able to assist me today, and help us work through their shot list. (Thank you Jenna!) Even though it was over 100 degrees today AND their pictures were at 12 noon (ahh, noon day sun…a photographer’s nightmare!) Julie, Morgan, and their family and friends were so incredibly nice and didn’t complain at all…they were all such troopers!

I have a TON of pictures still to look through, but I wanted to post a small preview for the newlyweds before we head off for vacation. Julie & Morgan—CONGRATULATIONS on your beautiful wedding, and I hope you guys have a blast in Belize! Thank you so much for having me photograph you on this most special day!

Proud big sister-to-be!

I was so excited when Beth first emailed me about doing a maternity session…and then super excited when she later told me they are having another girl! I am a fan of the two girl families, obviously : ) When we met up this evening and I saw what they were wearing, I was so excited. Wardrobe can make such a difference in photos. I absolutely love the bright colors they chose…it all looked so beautiful with our location.

Beth is right at 34 weeks now, and she is absolutely gorgeous! They were all such troopers in the heat tonight, too!

Clowney family, thank you so much for the great session tonight. Miss Sophie was perfect and you guys are just wonderful. I hope you have a wonderful rest of your pregnancy…and congratulations! : )

A mini session is really perfect for someone 2 years old, too…they think it’s fun for a little while and then it’s over…short and sweet! : )

Oh, how I love this family! I always look forward to photographing the Raymers…they are so sweet and obedient and GORGEOUS! Not to mention—they are always dressed impeccably. (I SO loved their matching plaid today! Perfect for summer!) We met up in their backyard (MacGregor Downs…not bad for a backyard, huh?) early this morning before it got too hot (but really, it was already too hot haha) and snapped away in honor of little Tripp having turned 6 months old! He is already crawling AND pulling up…he’ll be walking before you know it! Caroline & Katie are such good big sisters—and combine that with Tripp’s easy-going personality & adorable smile, and you have one great session.

Meet my beautiful friend Anna. She and her husband, Clint, are expecting their first—a baby boy—within a few short weeks. I have been looking forward to this session for quite some time now, and despite a minor setback (I got a flat tire on my way to meet them and ended up being 45 minutes late! Thank goodness for Nationwide Roadside Assistance!) we were able to get some great shots and not get struck my lightning! : )

These two are so in love and baby George is incredibly lucky to have these two as parents. Anna—you are truly glowing. I’m so glad you decided to go with me for maternity shots…I had so much fun with you guys! Now that these are done, the countdown to baby George’s birthday can officially begin! : )

This week I had the wonderful pleasure of meeting the darling Palmer family and photographing their sweet little newborn daughter, Brynn. Big sister Ryan also got some solo shots because she is turning THREE soon! Little Brynn was perfect, and as sweet as she could be…nevertheless, I could not get her to sleep. We tried multiple feedings, space heaters, and lots and lots of waiting…and the sweet little thing just had other plans. : ) Fortunately, we were able to capture some really sweet moments with her family holding her…and truthfully, if this were my baby, I’d want the real ones…the ones of us holding her and loving on her over the posed shots any day.

How cute are these kids?!? I had a wonderful time with the Smith family this weekend! I was a little nervous because typically, being nearly-two years old is a pretty tough age for portraits…AND there were two of them ! : ) Fortunately though, these two were positively adorable and kept me smiling--and on my toes--the whole time. Little Landon did not find me nearly has funny as his sister did…but he’s cute even when he’s serious : ) The weather was lovely early in the morning and these kiddos were just so good…it was an all around wonderful session!

The Secret Garden…with Perfect Newborn Baby Tade {Raleigh Durham Newborn Photographer}

When Karlie first contacted me about doing her son’s newborn photos, she mentioned that her family owns a greenhouse and she wanted to incorporate plants, their gardens, etc. into the images. I usually do newborn photos inside so this was a real treat…no blankets as backdrops, just their natural, beautiful backyard! Tade was such a good boy…he didn’t want to sleep too much (except when I was about to leave!) but he gave me some good eye contact and some sweet smiles. That first picture with mother and son is my favorite…how sweet he is?!?

Introducing the Adorable Arbons! {Raleigh Durham Family Photographer}

As I was driving to meet this cute family this week, the clouds were almost black overhead and the wind was blowing mightily…I was so scared we were going to find ourselves right in the middle of a summer thunderstorm! But, would you believe it, but about 10 minutes into the session, the clouds parted and there was glorious sunshine with a little breeze…PERFECT WEATHER. Speaking of perfect, these kids could not have been more well-behaved…I was so impressed! I also loved mom’s outfit choices…so darling!

My Fun Evening with the Clayton Family!

A few months ago at my church we did a White Elephant Gift Exchange—only instead of actual “gifts” we wrote down talents or a service that we would provide for someone else. Some people offered babysitting, baked goods, quilting lessons, etc. Well, Becca ended up with my offer—a family photo session—and so this week we headed to Duke Gardens for her family’s pictures! I have known this family for quite a few years now, and have always admired Becca…she is an amazing mother and example. My husband and I used to teach their oldest little girl in nursery years ago, and now Becca’s husband, Vaughn, is our little Delainey’s nursery teacher! I am so grateful to know this sweet family.

Claytons-- I hope you guys like the images! Trust me, this is way better than any pie or dish that I could’ve offered to cook instead : )

My beautiful little sister married her best friend today. Everything was absolutely perfect. She was gorgeous and gracious and…perfect.

I am too tired to write more just now, but I did want to post some of her bridal portraits we shot back in April at the beautiful Page Farms near my house! (She trudged through cow patties and 2 or 3 fields to get to where I wanted to shoot…but I think it was worth it. )

Anyways…I love you Sam…and am so incredibly happy for you and Graham : )

I was so excited when Joelle contacted me about doing some engagement portraits for her and her fiance! She and J.T. are both elementary school teachers who teach with my sister-in-law, Jenna…so I was really hoping I could do a good job for them! I haven’t photographed just adults in a while it seems…but these two were so much fun so it made my job easy. They were also incredible troopers, seeing as how it was 90 something degrees outside! I can’t wait to look through all of their images, but here is a preview for now!

Owen is One…and is the Cutest Little Viking You’ve Ever Seen! {Durham Children Photographer}

Preface: If this does not make you smile, I don’t know what will.

When Owen’s mom, who also happens to be a dear friend, contacted me way back when about doing a mini session for his first birthday, I was excited. But when she said mentioned incorporating a Viking hat and Norway into it, I was thrilled! You see, little Owen was named after his great grandpa who was Norwegian. Moreover, he was born on May 17th—Norway’s Independence Day! So it was very fitting that we should throw a little bit of his heritage into the session. (We took a bunch in regular clothes too, but I just couldn’t resist sharing these!)

We got SO many great shots, and all in about 15 minutes! (See, a Mini Session is a perfect amount of time to capture some great images without breaking the bank!)

Thanks for the great session little Owen! You are certainly the most adorable Viking I have EVER seen!

I had the privilege a few weeks ago to help out A.J. and Kyle of AJ Dunlap Photography as a second (or third, really) shooter for a wedding they were photographing. A.J. and I actually went to Middle School together back in Asheville way back when, but thanks to facebook we reconnected and I am so glad we did! I really enjoyed shooting with her…she told me where to be and what shots she wanted--I love that! It was a beautiful day at Binkley Chapel over in Wake Forest…and this wedding, with 450+ guests, was absolutely beautiful! I am a little backed up with my own clients to post too many, but here are a FEW of my favorite shots from Stacey and Jacob’s day!

Twin Baby Girls…Introducing Elise & Stella! {Durham Newborn & Family Photographer}

I have been looking forward to this session for months now, ever since mom emailed me back in January. I was so excited to get word that Stella and Elise had arrived safe and sound, and even more excited that they got to come home on schedule…so I was able to photograph them on their 10th day of life! These BEAUTIFUL girls were my first ever twins…and although I was a little nervous since I’d never photographed twins before… they were absolutely wonderful. Their “big sister” Zoe, a poodle-shih tzu mix, was very sweet too. We bonded while the girls had a feeding : )

I was amazed at how “together” Kori and Paul seemed to be…I thought having just one baby at a time was a lot of work, but these two seemed like seasoned pros. I know Miss Elise and Stella are two very lucky girls to have such loving parents! Thanks for the great session you guys…your sweet daughters are absolutely perfect.

Presenting…The Caldwell Family Mini Session {Raleigh Family Photographer}

I had a blast photographing the Caldwell family this week! These kids were SO good…mom wanted to do a mini session because she wasn’t sure how long little Wesley would be cooperative, but he was so great the entire time! I loved their color choices—the blue looked fantastic with the greenery behind them. I had the hardest time narrowing down some to put on the blog, but just trust me when I say that yes, every photo is this cute. They are just one adorable, photogenic family…what can I say? : )

It’s a Bird! It’s a Plane! It’s Super Kai! …and his Super Sweet Grandparents {Raleigh Durham Children Family Photographer}

When Kai’s mom emailed me about this session, I thought it was genius. What grandparents do you know that would not love to do a session with their grandchild?!? Of course we took some shots of just Kai for his being 9 months old, but we were also able to capture some sweet moments between grandchild and grandparent.

I was excited when Kai’s grandparents suggested we do the shoot at their house—this meant we were able to go inside every so often and cool down in this crazy heat before heading out for another round of pictures.

It was obvious the second I arrived how much this little guy is loved by his family…they were so sweet with him and a joy to photograph. Kai, however, was less sure about the whole enterprise. He wasn’t upset at all, but he would not smile at me for anything! : ) Luckily, his dad came to pick him up right as we were finishing up and I was able to get a few smiles then. Thanks for a wonderful session Palermo family!

Shae is (almost) Three! {Raleigh Durham Child Photographer}

While visiting my family in Memphis, TN last week, I had the opportunity to have a Mini Session with the (nearly) three year old little Shae! She was absolutely adorable and VERY obedient…I was so impressed! (With this age you never know what you’re going to get!) Her sweet grandmother made the darling smocked dress with the cupcakes on it that she wore for part of the session—isn’t it cute? Beautiful Evening with the Johnson Family

So…I was 15 minutes late for this session—not normal for me. My GPS failed me the last time I came out to the Johnson’s farm, so this time I put my trust in google maps…but to no avail. Luckily, after some helpful directions I finally made it! I was so worried that when I (ultimately) showed up, the girls would be over the whole taking pictures thing (with little ones you often only get a short window of cooperation and excitement about these things) but I could not have found two happier girls in all of the Triangle! These little girls ( ages 1(almost) and 2!!!) were SO good. Their clever mommy had promised them a tea part after they were good for pictures…and they sure did have a ball at their (well-deserved) tea party! I was in l-o-v-e with their darling vintage chairs, too.

Wow, adorable Mr. Lucas gave his mama and I a workout this evening…he was on the RUN! We pulled out all the stops…even candy haha, but Lucas, in typical 2 year old fashion, was not to be coerced into standing still for more than a second or two : ) I still love the images we were able to capture though…could he be any cuter?!?

I love his gorgeous blue eyes and little seersucker pants…my favorite thing though was his face when he heard a train whistle in the distance…it was the cutest!

Little Wade wins the prize for the best two year old I have photographed in a long time…seriously, he was so well-behaved! …Although, after the very first few shots we took he jumped up and said, “All done!” haha : ) Anyways, I was so excited to get to photograph this cute, newly turned two-year old and his parents after bad weather made us reschedule earlier this month. I loved that he brought along his favorite toy—his new golf clubs. I think he’s got a pretty good swing already!

I was so excited to photograph the adorable Andreev family again! It’s hard to believe that Miss Lucy is now 6 months old! I kept having deja-vu all night with these girls and my own two girls at home…their dynamics were so similar! Cute Miss Lucy did not want to show off her sitting—she much preferred to be held. Adoring big sister Emily was darling as always, and I was so excited when we actually got the two girls in a shot together…at the very end! That had been our goal all night and I was overjoyed that we got it!

I had not seen little Miss Ellie since doing her newborn pictures, and I was about to have a heart attack from her cuteness when I met up with the Bearrows this evening. Children change so much between the first week of life and 6 months, so it’s always exciting for me to see how much they’ve changed and witness their little emerging personalities. Miss Ellie was much more into staring at my camera than she was flashing her adorable smile, but luckily we were able to get a few good grins in the mix as well. But let’s be honest—smiling or not—this little girl is absolutely darling.

I absolutely adore the Moyer family and was so excited to be able to photograph them again…especially since Easton is now 6 months old! His darling sisters just had birthdays themselves, so it was a perfect time to get some updated images of everyone. Easton was SO smiley and easy-going, Presley was a dream and Miss Rylee, who is at a typically difficult age for pictures, was actually really good one-on-one. It seems like only yesterday we were taking little Palmer’s newborn pictures, and somehow, now he is a big one year old! Even though it was chilly and a bit dreary for this session, Palmer was adorable and super easy-going, just like at his newborn and 6 month pictures. He is also one of the best-dressed 1 year olds I know! : ) Palmer is going to be a big brother later this year, and I know that his little sister is going to be the luckiest girl to have him for a brother! I love the Fife family and was so excited to get to have another session with them! Mom wanted some updated pictures of the kiddos, so this one was kids-only, but they were all so unbelievably well-behaved…this was one of the easiest sessions ever! We shot all of these outside their house and down by their pond, and the lovely setting, combined with the warm evening light made for some gorgeous images…don’t you think? : )

Could these kiddos be any cuter? Definitely not! After going back and forth about re-scheduling these sessions and finally deciding to go ahead with them since the rain was supposed to hold off, I almost started crying when it started raining RIGHT when I arrived. (Seriously?) However, luckily it only sprinkled for about 5 minutes…and by the time we got started, I even saw some blue sky!

Remember the maternity shoot I did with this beautiful mama? Well, little Miss Taylor arrived and is now (almost) 3 months old! She amazed me today with how well she could hold her head up…what a strong little lady! She was, however, one of the first 3 month olds that I haven’t really been able to make smile…luckily though, she will smile for her mommy and daddy! I loved the smiles we were able to get though…especially the bubbly smile at the top…so cute! And the weather was beautiful so we ventured outside for some family shots…what a darling family!

6 Month Cutie: Kai

I have been so excited to photograph little Kai for his 6 month milestone! Mom told me today that he had been sick this week, and subsequently hadn’t been sleeping well at night. When I arrived at his house today for his session he was nearly asleep…the poor little guy…but luckily he perked up and was was perfectly adorable once we started taking pictures. I couldn’t believe how well he did, considering how sleepy he was! I haven’t had time to look through all of the images yet, but these were some favorites from the first part of our session.

I had a great time photographing some friends of ours, the Perry Family, recently in Raleigh! Their daughter gave their mom a photo package as a Christmas gift and Mom really wanted to take advantage of her family all being together, since they are spread out all over the country. They were such good sports all morning in the freezing, North Carolina tundra, and the boys were especially helpful moving benches and things throughout the backyard. I’ve been looking forward to doing this and was so glad that we were able to make it happen—even if it was cold!

Here Comes the Bride… {Raleigh Durham LDS Wedding Photographer}

…all dressed in white. This is my beautiful sister-in-law who is getting married this weekend! (Yes, I was given permission to post these whenever since Jamie is positive Will does not look at my photography blog.) Jamie and Will are getting married at the Raleigh Temple of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and I am so proud of their decision to be married there. I know it is going to be such a special day for them!

Jamie had a very laid-back approach to her bridals… she only requested that they be taken somewhere natural and simple, so we headed to the Raleigh Little Theatre and had a great, albeit freezing, time! (There was still snow on the ground!) She was a real trooper though, and I have like 300 images, and all of them good haha…here are just a sampling that I’ve looked through so far.

Fun with the Browns…and William is One!

I had a wonderful time with our good friends, the Browns, over the weekend. They braved the chilly temperatures to get some pictures in before William’s 1st birthday party! (I’m still sad we couldn’t make it…I’m sure it was a blast!) How adorable is William in his monkey hat? I LOVE it! Jewell Fam: Singing in the Rain

Can you tell that it was 34 degrees and pouring down the rain in these photos??? Because it was! With Christmas fast approaching and BOTH Ashley and I having jury duty this week (what are the chances?), she decided we should make a go of it instead of rescheduling… so we sought after shelter and snapped away! Little Royceton was adorable as always and I can’t express how much I loved his hat. He had matching mittens too, but those didn’t stay on long : ) Anyways, awesome family with a totally awesome little boy…I love these images.

I love this family and have been looking forward to this session for months now! I had the pleasure of photographing them before and now, a year later, it was so sweet to see them with their newest daughter, Lucy! (I adore that name, by the way.) I was so excited when the Wilcenski family signed up for a mini session because I photographed them last year and walked away from that session thinking that little man “H” is one the of the cutest kids I’ve ever seen. After this weekend he can still claim that title…just look at him! Hello Gap Kids! : ) Thanks for a fun session you guys!

It was so nice to meet up with the MacKenzie family this weekend! I love everything about their photos—their outfits, color scheme, and oh yes—their beautiful baby girl! She was a doll, and even though we didn’t get a ton of big smiles out of her, she’s beautiful even when she’s serious! (We did get some smiles though mom, no worries.) What a cute family!

Mini Session Preview: Lora and Charles

I had a fabulous time with Lora and Charles this weekend in downtown Raleigh! They wanted to do a mini session to get some updated photos of them as a couple, as well as a few portraits of Lora. She is a very talented opera singer and I was lucky enough to hear her sing for a minute—she was A-MAZ-ING.

I always have fun photographing these wonderful kids, so I was excited when their mom reserved a mini session spot! They were extremely good as always, but considering they were en route to the fair, I was especially impressed…Who wants to take pics when you could be eating cotton candy?!? : )

Little Man “P” is 6 Months Old!

I had a fabulous time downtown this week with the “M” family to document their little guy turning 6 months old! I loved seeing how much he had grown since his newborn session! Although he isn’t quite sitting just yet, he was so sweet and easy-going as we propped him up all over town : ) Thanks for a great session you guys! P.S. How cute is that bow tie?!?
